Why Is My Water Bill So High
Everett water bills do not double because you washed one extra load. Usage that jumps with the same household is a toilet, irrigation, or a hidden supply leak until proven otherwise.
Everett water bills do not double because you washed one extra load. Usage that jumps with the same household is a toilet, irrigation, or a hidden supply leak until proven otherwise.
The eight usual suspects
1. A toilet flapper that seeps all night. Dye in the tank tells you in fifteen minutes.
2. Irrigation left on after a wet spring. Walk the boxes.
3. A hose bib that did not seat.
4. A water softener or filter drain stuck open.
5. A supply leak under the slab or in the crawl. Meter still spins with everything off.
6. A hidden toilet in a guest bath nobody uses.
7. A heater T&P or tank leak that looks like 'the floor is just damp.'
8. A shared or mis-assigned meter in a multiplex. Rare, but we have seen the argument.
The meter test
Shut every fixture. Watch the meter. If it still moves, you have a leak or a toilet that lies.
Isolate irrigation at its shutoff and test again. Do not diagnose a slab until the easy valves are off.
If you cannot find the meter or the main, call. That is a ten-minute orientation, not a character flaw.
When to call leak detection
Meter movement with toilets proved innocent. Warm floor stripes. The sound of water in a wall. Those are leak detection calls, not a new shower head.
We locate. We do not demolish a Port Gardner living room to find a pipe we could have heard.
If the leak is on the city’s side, you should not pay to repair their main. We help you see the line.
What not to do
Do not ignore a doubled bill because winter 'is just wet.' Supply leaks are not rain.
Do not keep resetting the problem with a bigger payment plan. The pipe does not care.
Call Everett Plumbing Pros with the bill jump, the neighborhood, and whether the meter moves. That is enough to start.
